Fibromyalgia Exercise

Fibromyalgia exercise

If the patient has recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, the initial treatment may include:

  • Initiate a program of regular fibromyalgia exercise
  • Identification of sleep disorders, if any, and the discovery of methods for a complete rest
  • Less pain and a feeling of stiffness with medication, heat and cold applications
  • Gradual reduction of stress
  • Identify factors that accentuate symptoms.

With the coordination of the treating physician, the patient will continue the treatment at home. Fibromyalgia can be controlled with regular fibromyalgia exercise and by finding the best ways to fight stress. Sleep is very important in this situation. If symptoms are disturbing, the doctor prescribes medication. Common symptoms of depression and lack of inclination for activities you normally enjoy can be discussed with your family. Some people find very useful the complementary therapies such as acupuncture, massage, behavioral therapy and relaxation techniques. Home treatment is also an important step in addressing fibromyalgia. Patient efforts to do regular fibromyalgia exercise, to improve sleep and to reduce stress are as important to treat fibromyalgia as any drug treatment prescribed by a doctor.

Home fibromyalgia exercise:

The same as for the initial treatment, home treatment is essential to treat fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia exercise, sleep, stress reduction, can be very useful in controlling the symptoms. It is important to continue on long term the treatment at home.

Prescription medicines may be useful for improving some symptoms, like pain or sleep disorders. The reassessment of therapy is recommended by your doctor, if they do not help. There are other alternatives. It is important to know that the need of medicines may change over time.

Another important component of treatment is to avoid or limit the stress factors that accentuate the symptoms. Cold or wet weather, insufficient sleep, fatigue, stress and exhaustion of physical or emotional factors seem to be stressful for people with fibromyalgia. Sometimes, not all of these factors can be avoided, but we can find ways to reduce stress, to improve sleep and to avoid burnout. There are needed better tools to measure the inability, especially in patients with fibromyalgia.

Patients should be informed that their suffering is not a debilitating or degenerative deformed and that treatment can be effective. Local measures such as heat, massage, injections with steroids or lidocaine on sensitive points and acupuncture improve symptoms temporarily. Other therapeutic measures that produce improvements of various degrees include biofeedback, hypnotherapy, stress reduction, relaxation. Use of tricycle antidepressants taken with 1-2 hour before bedtime improves sleep and improves the patient symptoms. Sometimes higher doses may be necessary in these medicines. Depression and anxiety should be treated with appropriate medications and, if necessary, under the supervision of psychiatrists.

The patient may also benefit from regular aerobic fibromyalgia exercise. The exercises should be gentle and start at a low level. The patient should exercise 20-30 min, 3-4 days a week. Regular isometric exercises are also very important. Daily stress must be identified and discussed with the patient, which should help him overcome. Patients may benefit from a multidisciplinary team including a psychologist, a physiotherapist and a rehabilitation specialist. Group therapy may be helpful. Patients should be well trained about their disease and about the importance that their own help has in treating this disease. There are support groups in many communities. Fibromyalgia treatment is effective in some persons, while others continue to have chronic disease, with partial or minimal improvements.

Treatment fibromyalgia:

Although fibromyalgia is a chronic syndrome, there is much to be done to reduce and to control the symptoms. Home treatment is the most important part of fibromyalgia treatment and is based on:

  • Regular exercise. Of all the fibromyalgia treatments, exercise seems to bring the most benefits in reducing pain and other symptoms and lead to general improvement of our mood
  • Improving sleep
  • Alleviating pain. High temperatures and low therapy, massage, light exercise prescription can help.
  • Reduce stress
  • Information about fibromyalgia.

The best results it is participating actively in the treatment. The patient lifestyle needs to be adjusted to include treatment, particularly regular exercise. It may take some time before there is a program adapted to the case. The person must have patience and need to be aware that continued treatment at home, usually help to relieve or control fibromyalgia symptoms.
